Worship

WELCOME

Music moves people, music helps people to connect with their feelings and emotions. Here at Trent Vineyard, however, we want our worship to be more than music. Our aim is to use the music as a vehicle to draw people close to God. We want our worship to be relevant and contemporary, but not to lose sight of the vineyard worship's core value, intimacy with the Father.

Both the morning and evening services have 25-30 minutes of worship, led by one of several bands. Our small groups also prioritise worship in a smaller, more intimate setting.

MORE THAN MUSIC : TRENT VALUES

“Everything comes from God but worship comes from us and goes back to God” John Wimber.

Worship is not something we ‘get’ on a Sunday, rather it is a unique opportunity to give something back to God. Yet in giving back to God we find that we also re-connect with Him and ‘find’ Him all over again. For example, many people have told us that they “cried and cried through the worship”. We believe that giving to God in worship is the key to finding God at work in our lives.

What we sing and how we express our worship to God is vitally important to us. We want to write and sing our own songs that are current, vibrant and authentic. Whilst we want people to enjoy the music and celebrate creativity, we also want to capture the truth, beauty and richness of the gospel in the words we sing. Music has always been a powerful medium through which people communicate and express the language of the heart. Today, perhaps more than ever, music plays a large part in our daily lives. From the clubs, bars and cafés of Nottingham to the internet, airwaves and iPods, music is everywhere!

Our aim here at Trent has always been to try and have music that helps connect people with God. We aim to do this not just in our main Sunday meetings, but everywhere: in our youth ministries, Vineyard Kids, at the Cabin, at the Arches, in small groups, in prisons, at Alpha, at leaders meetings, in worship clusters, our Discipleship Year streams and even our early morning prayer meetings… That’s a lot of worship!

We have around 120 musicians at the moment, all facilitating worship in different areas. When you hear stories of those on the fringes of society down at the Cabin saying “sing those Jesus songs, they comfort me”, or of a woman who clings to the lyrics of a song through desperate times, then you cannot help but thank God for taking this small thing we offer, and using it in incredible ways.

Of course music isn’t our only form of creative worship; there are many other talented and gifted people amongst us. Fine artists, graphic artists, media artists, film makers, sound engineers, DJs, VJs, poets and designers all make worship at Trent what it is. It’s an amazing privilege to see what God is doing in and through all of them.

INSIDE OUT

Worship is an important priority here at Trent whether in small groups or in the main meetings. Everyone involved is valued for their contribution and their willingness to follow God's call.

Over the past couple of years, we have been taking time to facilitate evenings where worship leaders can gather together to learn, pray for each other and discuss various aspects of worship. This year we want to build on what we have done before and widen opportunities for anyone in small groups (not only musicians ) who are interested in worship to gather once a term, Worship together, pray for each other and hopefully be more inspired to live a life of passionate worship.

These events will then be followed by evenings of practical worship training including, The Worship Leaders Course, The Guitar Course and later in the year The Song Writers Course.

OFF THE RECORD: NEW SONGS

Off The Record is soon to become the place where new songs written in the church can be accessed and listend too.

WORSHIP EVENTS

The church hosts Closer events that are aimed at encouraging small groups to come together for an evening of worship and prayer. These informal events provide an opportunity for reflection, meditation and creative communal prayer. They are valuable times that offer time and space for the church to wait on God together and respond to whatever He is saying.

Previous events around Easter time have focussed on the cross of Jesus, and allowing it to deeply impact people's hearts and lives.

For details of forthcoming closer events, held at the Warehouse, check the bulletin. Contact the office for more information on 0115 988 7060.

Closer Events

We love to explore the creative side of worship, and one of our priorities is to do this on a regular basis.  Be sure to look out for our Closer events - an evening of prayer and worship - held at the Warehouse.

Closer Course

A course run once each year, looking at how we can live lives of worship, and not simply confine our worship to God to Sundays. For more information, contact Jack Bull or Nigel Briggs.
